NIKON NIKKOR 135mm f2.0 AiS – MINTY! NIKON NIKKOR 135mm f2.0 AIS – 1985 – EXCELLENT! A VERY RARE EXAMPLE OF THIS SUPERB NIKKOR! A fine example of this rarely seen superfast portrait/telephoto Nikkor, offered in excellent condition! There’s something about Nikon equipment, you pick it up and you’re instantly aware of the seminal images of our lifetime, captured by this wonderful, cherished equipment. Never is this more apparent than when looking at a Pro level period piece of kit such as this. A rare and sought after AiS 135mm f2.0 Nikkor, this is the only version of this classic lens ever produced. Offered in limited numbers from 1981 to 2005, with just over one thousand produced each year for the whole world. The serial number on this particular example dates it to circa 1985. As this lens has the AIS version of the F Mount, it is compatible with absolutely every single Nikon SLR or DSLR made since 1959, right up to the fabulous new Df! It is also an ideal companion to any of the Nikon bodies for sale in my other auctions I have trialled this lens briefly on a D7000 and the results have never been no less than staggering, this really is a landmark lens. Of course, with an adapter, It will be just as capable on the gorgeous full frame Sony A7 and A9, any Canon DSLR, Micro Four thirds, Sony NEX or Fuji X, even a Leica M should you be so inclined. This particular lens is in simply excellent condition, having apparently been looked after very carefully. The vast, wide open glass is perfectly clear, no marks at all and just a single mote of dust visible when that immense barrel is held up to the daylight. The barrel itself is similarly excellent, with just a few marks to betray 33 years of photography. There is of course, absolutely no sign of any oil or fungus at all. To use this lens, it is hefty and tight, with a level of build quality which feels frankly alien to the modern hand. The focus and aperture rings move as smoothly as you would hope from a Nikon lens, while the built in hood pulls out, locks into position and retracts easily and without fuss and the optic bears a gorgeous multi coloured NIC multicoating which shimmers in the light and attracts the eye like a precious jewel. Traditionally, the 135mm is regarded as a portrait lens and this is indeed a lens built for bokeh, but it lends itself to much, much more, its compact(ish) size and long reach teamed with the shatteringly fast aperture make it the ideal partner for many kinds of photography, from the most sublime portraits to grabbing those illusive middle distance candids in the street!
